Tax Scams: IRS's Dirty Dozen

Taxly strives to promote compliance with the internal revenue laws by empowering and educating taxpayers. In doing so, we rely on twelve objectives that help steer our short-term and long-term performance goals. We refer to these objectives as the Daring Dozen, which we hope will serve to combat the fraudulent and deceptive practices identified in the IRS's Dirty Dozen.

Phishing Schemes

Phishing occurs when fraudster attempts to lure you into providing personal information (e.g., passwords or credit card numbers) by posing as an official business or government entity. The IRS has seen a tremendous increase in phishing schemes utilizing emails, letters, texts and links. Many of these phishing schemes use keywords such as "coronavirus," "COVID-19" and "Stimulus" in various ways. Remember, the IRS will never initiate contact with you via email about a tax bill, tax refund, or Economic Impact Payment.
